You may be asking “why wasn’t this guy on your big board?” Well here’s where they stack up in my overall rankings. I’ve ranked position groups based on what I’ve watched, personal preference, research on fit for the Patriots in terms of scheme and locker room fit, as well as where they may rank in consensus’s rankings. Some guys being scheme versatile helped boost their rank, some guys locker room leadership, commitment and demeanor helped boost their rank.
Some rankings list are longer than others showing strength of that positions class.
I do have a list for Left Tackles and Quarterbacks, though they are not a priority need for us. You can see what our competition maybe looking for. Gives you a good idea of if I’m one of those teams who am I considering for at QB… thankfully for us it’s not the best QB class.
As well as maybe look at the left tackles I have ranked as possible depth can’t ever have too much depth, and keep in mind some guys may be able to be swing tackles and play left and right or capable of kicking inside which I’ve marked beside the player. More often than not it’s not the best idea to move someone out of position, as crazy as it sounds a guy that’s played left tackle his whole career, is going to struggle switching to right tackle if they’ve never done it, it’s said to be like learning to write with your opposite hand. The footwork and technique you use in your blocks have to be flipped. So keep that in mind before you mock a left tackle and say he’s playing right tackle.
WR is the last one I wanted to highlight before you read, I mostly looked into size, versatility, a big body guy (if you possessed that) your ranking was probably favored over others, if I feel the receiver is too redundant or similar to what we have which is 5’10-6’ body when we have 5 of those already, if the prospect fit what we already have, then I primarily graded your talent overall over our need. I’ve listed which receiver does what X (primarily a bigger body outside receiver, contested catches, more physicality, larger catch radius ) Z (outside/inside versatile usually a quicker guy, versatile route running, reliable catcher on quick routes) Slot (primarily lines up inside, between the Oline and the outside receiver, usually a faster player, quick jump on inside routes up the middle) some are often combined for their versatility(X/Z/Big Slot), if I’ve only primarily seen do one thing that’s what’s listed (Slot)
I hope you enjoy and check these guys out if they’re ranked higher than you expected or haven’t heard of because they deserve a watch for your scouting enjoyment.
